Cockshutt 1600 electrical

I have a Cockshutt Branded Oliver 1600, I believe that the electrical system on it it 2 6volt batteries in series with a positive ground.(reverse polarity) My 2 questions are, 1- Can i switch from 2 6 volt batteries to one 12volt, and 2 What all do i have to do to convert it to a negative ground system. (normal polarity) Feel free to correct me on any misinformation i have. Thanks in advance, Jacob.

Diesel or gas?  Gas used a 12volt diesels used two 6volts in series.  It will work but may crank slower which could make it harder to start when cold.  Why do you want to convert it to neg. ground?  All 6 volt and early 12 volt systems were positive and worked fine.
