Hi all I enjoy your posts but this is my first so excuse any forum mistakes I make. This is the first post I have ever done, first tractor I have ever owned and second carburetor I have ever rebuilt (I rebuilt a 1967 Mustang one 15 years ago and it is still running). I am restoring a Cockshutt 30 1949 tractor. This is my first tractor restore and am learning lots thanks to many of your posts.
I have a question about the Zenith Carburetor narrow body I believe. With respect to the rebuild kit and new floats - I got a Needle, Seat & Gasket assembly which I all replaced no problem. The float has a little bar that holds it on its hinge but I also received in the rebuild kit a tiny little "squiggle or metal spring but its not a spring" sort of thing. My original did not have this piece when I took it apart. From what I gather from the image it is supposed to go between the float bracket and the needle head?
A lot of the carburetor kits are universal and can be used on several different models of carburetors. So you may have a few gaskets and other parts that don't work with your carburetor. The clip in question hooks the needle to the float so that the weight of the float will pull on the needle as the bowl empties to help prevent the needle from sticking in the seat. Do you need it no, if it didn't have one before and was working just fine. If you can put it in I would.
