Hey there, my Cockshutt 540 is leaking oil from the drive shaft, pto and brake shaft seals. Can anyone tell me what the part numbers for these seals are or the sizes, and the best place to get them? I am mostly interested in the brake shaft seals.
Hey Joe, thanks for the info. I was able to find the PTO seal but it was about $35 so, a parts guy helped me find a double lip seal that worked. The original seal was a one piece housing with 3 rawhide seals inside, but, I was able to fit 3 of the double lips seals in it's place. The lip seals were a little over $5 a piece at Advanced Auto.
Here is the lip seal info:
NATIONAL Part # 473214
Oil Seal; Nitrile Seal,
Shaft Size=1.375",
Housing Bore=2.25,
Outer Diameter=2.254,
Width=0.312in
I took the pinion/brake seal plate off and I noticed that the seal has the lip/spring side of the seal pointing toward the outside of the housing. I wonder if it is in backward? I would think the lip/spring side of the seal would go on the fluid side, the seal looks ok and is soft and pliable but it leaks a little. The shaft surface is not bad either. What do you think?
I have heard of some guys putting the seal in backwards if there is damage to the shaft in order to get the lip on a good area of the shaft, as a quick fix.
