Whats a good spark plug for a 540

I put a new set of Champion D16 in my 540 and they are junk. Did I just get a bad set or is there a better option?

When I was a kid I had a hot-rod '57 Chev that I tried different spark plug in. A.C.s would go 8000 miles till they would miss at high RPMs, Autolites would go 10,000 miles and Champions would go 800 miles. I haven't bought a Champion plug since!!!!     (It's been a long time since I was a kid)
