I have been working on a 540 for a while now trying to get it running properly. If I put in new spark plugs it will run for about 10 minutes then quit. The plugs are fouling up with black carbon on all cylinders.
I little history on this machine; I have converted it from 6V to 12V, still not sure if I am setting the timing correctly. I have two books that say to set the intial timing at TDC and one that says 6 deg. BTDC. I have tried every combination of timing. Next step may be to pull off the head.
