Hi. I'm in the process of repainting a 1947 Co-op E3 and in the process of taking the hood and front grill off, I noticed a date stamped in the exhaust manifold. The firing order is stamped on there then there is a another number stamped on the other half of the manifold. The number is 8-26-47. Could this be the date of manufacture? It has serial # 5875 so I know it's a '47, I just wonder if the 8-26-47 is the actual manufacture date?
I have been around cockshutt tractors my whole life and am a director for the icci and didn't know they put the date on them learn something new everyday.
Just finished a 1947 Coop E3 and you will find that the earlier Coops were painted a different orange then later ones!! I wasn't able to find the correct paint code so ended up picking it from paint chip!!!
There's a pretty good patch of original paint on the side of the engine block, but it might be faded. I found the crank start handle the other day and that has a little better original paint so I'm going try to match that. The pre 1950 Co-op paint seems to be almost a yellow-orange. All I can do is try I guess.
I would think that's the casting date from the foundry. I'm rebuilding my E-4 engine and found cast-in dates on the head and the block. Both December 1950, the tractor is a '51.
