buda 4b182

Just purchased a 4b182 out of a air compressor.   It is a little different than the 4b153 as it has a magneto rather than a generator.   I understand that the 182 is rather rare and that some people call them a power block.   Anyone installed one of these in a "30"??   If so what is involved and is the power gain worth the effort??

Use front and rear mount plates from the 153 engine from the model 30. Also flywheel etc. Use generator bracket and distributor from 153 as well. The cover plate for the back of the governor will work once you remove the mag.
Added power of engine will be noticeable and worth the effort.

I have  Cockshutt 30 with a Buda 153. I just purchased another Cockshutt 30 but the engine looks taller. I'm hoping that it is a 4b182. My question is, how do I find out for sure as the aluminum plate on the left side of hte block is missing?

The 153 and 182 shared most parts.  The only real difference is the larger bore and cast-in cylinders.  I'm not positive but I doubt it would look any different.  I think the 182 and 273 used freeze plugs on the side of the block.  Wet sleeve engines didn't use them.

Go to my earlier posts and download the Buda engine manual.  It may help you figure out what you have.

Thanks again Mike. I'll check the manual.

Yes, the 4B182 has expansion plugs just like a 6B273. It uses the same piston as the 273 also.
