Sleeve Removal

Can anyone offer some advice on getting piston sleeves out of my 4 cylinder Gas Buda engine for a Cockshutt tractor.I read the manuals and they suggest a block of wood will get them out.I tried this and was successful on the first sleeve. The second sleeve cracked when we were beating on it and now I am concerned about the last two.I have one spare sleeve so I need these last two out safely. Any tricks I should know about?

Thanks in advance.

If you lived closer I'd loan you my sleeve puller. Check with your local engine service shops and tractor dealers one of them should have a puller. Maybe they would loan it to you or you could take the block to them and have them pull'm.
