I have been working on my 540 for a couple years. After many issues I finally got it together and running. However it will only run with full choke. The carb has been rebuilt, and set to basic settings. attempts to adjust the jets does not seem to help. Should I consider adjusting the float. I recall that when it ran in the past, gas would pour out of the carb at times, and it does not do that now. I am so close to having it running good. Thanks
Sounds like there is some blockage in the Main Jet. I would shut the fuel off and remove the Main Jet and try blowing some high pressure air through it. If that doesn't help sound like you will need to take the carb off and go through it again making sure to soak good in carb cleaner and blow out all passages. Is there a fuel filter on the tractor or a good screen in the sediment bowl? May have been something in the line that got into the carb.
Ok, thanks I will try that. There is a new sceen in the sediment bowl. I have had the carb off several times and soaked it and cleaned it. However I bit of something still may have got through.
