Front oil seal replacement, further question regarding the governor on my Co-op 30's Buda 4 cylinder

I have a further question beyond pulling the crank nut and belt pulley....I have read in my shop manual that in order to get the front cover off I will need to dismantle the  governor as it is an integral part of the front cover...once the linkage is removed, is the governor case simply split by unbolting its casting and then is it and its insides pulled away? Or are there hazards to this device I should know about before pullings the bolts on this unit?  Many thanks   Jeff

It's no big deal taking the governor off. The front and rear housings will both come off the front cover. The rear housing has a bead that fits into the bore of the thin spacer plate. The front half only locates on the bolts so it has some float. When you put the front half on you have to position it so it doesn't bind the governor shaft. The manual explains it. There is no timing of the governor gear. If you have hydraulics the pump is mounted to the back of the governor in place of the plate. It's a good time to go over your governor while it's off.
