1550 ignition problems

Hi.  I have a 1550 Cockshutt gas tractor and am having trouble with the ignition system.  Can anyone please tell me how to properly install the points and set them.  My manual says a point setting of .023 to .026.  What is the optimum setting?  Also, do I disconnect the vacuum advance before setting the gap?

Fixed the problem myself. Points are set at .024. Had a corroded ground wire that was the culprit. Everything running fine.

Not fixed yet. Ran good for about a half hour and now only runs good in neutral, runs rough under load.

Problem fixed.  Dirty gas in tank.  Small particles partially blocking flow into sediment bowl.  Took off the fuel line, blew into it and put it back on and tractor runs like a charm.  going to run most of the gas out then clean the tank.  Was told that you can solder a one inch copper pipe to the sediment bowl so that when you screw the sediment bowl back into the gas tank  you won't get that dirt blocking the flow of fuel.
