I am having problems with my 1550. Had the carburetor completely rebuilt, put in new points, condenser and coil and replaced the ground wire which attaches to the points. Tractor ran really well for maybe a half hour and now is acting up again. Runs fine when in neutral but when you put it into gear and it's under load it runs like crap and has no power. It will rev up like it wants to go and then starts running rough and missing. Any suggestions on what might be wrong with it.
I have a green 1550 and sit seemed to be weak under load. It would stumble or stall just letting up the clutch. If your ignition timing and plugs and plug wires are OK I'd say carburetor. Try opening the load jet a little (1/8 turn) at a time and see if it makes any difference.

I will try adjusting the carburetor today and post my results. Been reading up on electronic ignition system. Anybody out there know where I can get one and how it is to install and how the tractor runs with one of these?
Mine has a Mallory distributor. From what I read it was a common replacement to the original Holley, which I gather was not terribly reliable. For electronic ignition, a lot use the Pertronix system but I don't know anything about them.
Will have to look on the different part sites and see what they have to offer for electronic ignition. Also looking for a rotor and cap for the holley distributer. Anybody know where I can get these parts? Fixed my tractor problem though. Asked a friend of mine who is pretty tractor smart and he suggested blowing out the fuel line. Worked. Must have been something partially blocking the fuel flow through the sediment bowl. Tractor runs like new now.
