The valve on number 1 cylinder is stuck in my Buda 153. I've tried oiling it, tapping the valve top, prying the spring under the spring retainer and it will not free up. I let the engine heat up thinking that the casing would expand and let the valve stem go. All I succeeded in doing is bending the push rod. Does anyone have any tricks to free this valve?
Is stuck open or closed, intake or exhaust? If you can compress the spring enough to take the retainer off you will have better access. Just don't drop the tapered locks down the pushrod holes and make sure the piston is at TDC so if the valve drops in you won't lose it. Try some penetrant, I like Kroil, and maybe heat the top end of the guide a little. Tap gently on the end of the stem with a soft hammer. Once it moves, even just a little, the penetrant should free it up. It it's been running with a valve stuck open, especially exhaust, you could have a burned valve and damaged seat.
Thanks Mike. Sorry for not getting back sooner. I got the spring off and was able to attach a vice grip and wiggle it a bit until it freed up. One that happened it was minutes before it worked normally. Now its all back together and working fine. Thx again.
